Rosewater cookies for a special day

How on earth did I decide to make rosewater cookies? Well, it's a long story, but I bought some rosewater at a Turkish market a few weeks ago and I've been looking forward to using it. I found a recipe in "The Forgotten Art of Flower Cookery" and one thing led to another... then, I really lost my mind and added buttercream frosting and orchid blossoms. Somebody help me...I'm addicted to baking!!!

What you're looking at there is 2 1/4 cups cake flour, 1/4 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp. baking soda, 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder, 1/2 cup shortening, 1 egg. 1 cup sour cream, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and yes - 4 tsp. rosewater. With the addition of some pink and white candy hearts, they go in a 350 degree oven for 15 minutes.

I think that these rosewater cookies are winners. You get points for originality, you get to show off your sensitive and caring side to your significant other, hey - it may even inspire some gardening efforts come springtime. (edible flowers, get it) But for now, put up some hot water, break out the Rose Hips tea and call it a treat.

For a special occassion, like Mothers Day, here's what I did. Add buttercream frosting and some edible orchid blossoms (or rose petals). I brought these to my wife recently when she was in the hospital and her nurses loved them. Not bad for a beginner, huh?
