Mans best friend gets treats made with honey and molasses
Mans best friend deserves wholesome nutrition, right? I needed to make some treats for Fred, our 11 year old pooch, but the recipe called for molasses. I didn't have any, so when I picked up the Sunday paper at a local grocery store, I went in search of molasses. It wasn't easy to find, but I finally did locate the molasses in the syrup section, and after checking out - I was ready to bake. Ingredients * 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour * 1/2 cup brewers yeast * 1/2 cup wheat germ * 1/2 cup milk * 2 Tbsp honey * 2 Tbsp molasses * 2 Tbsp canola oil * 1/2 tsp cinnamon
Mix the wet ingredients in a large bowl, then gradually add the dry stuff. Bring it all together, adding a touch of spring water if necassary to form a dough. Roll it out to 1/4" thickness and cut out your dog biscuits. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and put treats on a sheetpan - makes about 18 pieces - I did bone shapes medium & small.
Bake for about 20 minutes, then turn off the oven. I left the sheetpan in with the oven door partially open, so that the biscuits would be good and hard.

The next morning I gave Fred a treat and he accepted it with a look as if to say "hey, what took so long, after all - I'm mans best friend!" ...that you are my friend, that you are...
