Clover biscuits for your Easter basket...

Clover biscuits, where did I get such an idea, you may be asking yourself? Well, I had read of a reference to 'clover bread' in a book a few weeks ago and thought that I should incorporate some flower power into Easter preparations. I then went online and found a source for organic red clover blossoms.

The basis for this recipe was 'sourcream shortcake biscuits' that I found in "The Herbfarm Cookbook" by Jerry Traunfeld. He describes this recipe as "rich, moist, tender and quick to make". ......That's good enough for me, get outta my way, Jerry, I'm ready to bake!

That's 2 cups sifted flour, 1 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1/4 tsp salt, 1/4 cup sugar and 4 Tbsp unsalted butter. Cut in the butter with a fork or your favorite kitchen tool, and then you add the super top secret, biscuitbaker exclusive ingredient!

Here's the fun part - I took several dry red organic clover blossoms and crumbled them between my fingers into a bowl. I then picked out any stem fragments and large pieces and put the rest through a metal screen sifter to further reduce the particle size.

Put the heaping tablespoon of clover blossoms into the dry mix and add 1 cup sourcream and 1/4 cup whole milk. Mix it all together, adding a little spring water if the mix is too dry. Then spoon out 6-8 portions on a sheetpan with parchment paper and sprinkle 1-2 Tbsp sugar on top. Put in your 475 degree preheated oven for about 10 minutes.

It is said by some that the lucky power of clover is as a protector of love and heroism, so I guess you could say that these clover biscuits are downright supernatural! Hey, what unique sort of biscuit can you think of? Hmmm.....
