Almond biscuits with buttermilk and vanilla from the City Tavern in Philadelphia
I made these almond biscuits today and I'm glad that I did. They are easy to make and they taste great. I found the scrumptious recipe in the "City Tavern Cookbook" by Walter Staib. The City Tavern is a colonial-era establishment in Philadelphia and after sampling one of the treats, I must say, good job chef - these treats are keepers.
Mix together the dry ingredients and cut in the butter to a coarse meal texture. Mix the wet ingredients and add to the dry. Bring it all together and roll out the dough to 1 inch thickness. Cut out your biscuits and place on a sheetpan. Brush the buns with buttermilk, then top with almonds and a sprinkle of sugar.
Bake at 425 degrees for about 15 minutes, until golden brown. Remove from the oven and cool on a wire rack. These biscuits are good just by themselves or with a dollop of whipped cream and berries. Definitely worth the time, these treats are sure to please your family and friends, so why not give them a try?
Now let's take a look at another good use for this healthy, tasty nut...
